Cost-effective, durable and environmentally friendly

An artificial seaweed forest, produced in environmentally friendly PVC, protects cleaner fish as well as gives them a natural habitat – without emitting microplastic.

While traditional plastic seaweed forests have to be replaced every six to seven months, our PVC seaweed tolerates up to three times as much time in the ocean. After this it is removed and returned to Protan for recycling into new PVC products. Furthermore, by using Protan’s seaweed forest, fish farmers significantly reduce the use of rope, which is known to be one of the worst environmental offenders.

Protan has also replaced environmentally damaging lead with larvicite stone to hold the seaweed in place during rough seas.

With a fish cleaning station in combination with Protan’s equally environmentally friendly lice skirt, there is also no need to use chemicals for de-licing.

Protan has a vast portfolio of aquaculture textiles in stock at all times, ensuring short delivery times and flexibilty for our customers.
